Eli

Here’s the deal with Eli. He really wasn’t technically benched, he was asked to start as the G-men wanted to show him some respect by allowing him to continue his streak of 210 games in a row starting. But Eli, being the competitor he is, said, nah, if I can’t have the opportunity to finish the game and get a win, forget it. He understands this disaster of a season is over and Big Blue wants to take a look at Davis Webb, so he just said, okay, take a look at him and I’ll help in his development in any way I can. Class Act. The Giant fans are pissed because Geno Smith, the Jets reject, who blows, is going to get the start and trade off series or quarters or whatever with Webb. But at least Smith can scramble away from the pressure and maybe get a drive going, however most likely he’ll back them up 15 yards and it’ll be a punt fest. Webb is just not ready to manage a full game yet, maybe the last two games he’ll get a chance for that.

I feel it’s stupid to leave Eli in there for these last five meaningless games, why risk injury to him? He has no O-line and no receivers. He’s never been nimble in the pocket and looks worse lately and is a fumble liability and has forced some bad throws. Even if he does get one off, usually a four yard pass to Engram, it’ll probably be dropped and they won’t get the first down anyway, so what’s the point? It sucks to admit it, but without Beckham their offense is pitiful. No running game at all and the same stupid play calls, Darkwa into the line for three yards, if they’re lucky.

The Giants are paying Eli a shitload so it’s not like they’re cutting him or anything. They should trade him if they don’t want him to mentor Webb next year. Let it be up to him. The Jags could take him for a couple of years, he’s an upgrade from Bortles and of course, he’d be reunited with Coughlin. Maybe Denver, where old Mannings go to semi-retire. I doubt he’d go to Cleveland, who would? They won’t get much for him, maybe a second or third rounder. Regardless let him think about it and see what he wants to do. I hope he doesn’t retire, he can still be productive and hey, it’s not the end of the world, Namath went to the Rams, Unitas went to the Chargers, Montana, the Chiefs…you get it, it’s a business.

Mara and Reese are frustrated, McAdon’t is horrendous and is going to get the boot. Eli is not the scapegoat. The billboards and New York press and fans are trying to spin this into a disrespect thing but it’s really about having to turn on the game and see Geno behind center, it is tough to take for sure, but it’s time to move forward, the season is done, and maybe Webb is a future talent. The Giants should get a pretty good draft pick, I’m hoping for the Penn State RB Barkley. It’s been too long since the G-Men had a threat back there, he looks like the real deal.

So Eli, it’s mostly up to you and I’m sure you’ll handle it. The team needs to see what they have in Webb.
