Icing the Kicker

It’s almost the end of the half or the game, the FG kicker is trotting on the field, he lines up…just a second before the snap, oh no, here it comes! Don’t do it! Damn, timeout. Genius Coach is going to ICE the Kicker. He frantically charges down the sideline with one second to go on the play clock making the “T” sign. What drama! Diego Gogalak boots it from 53 yards, no good, wide left…More truck commercials, then we return to get pumped up again, and he makes it! Camera shows Coach’s expressionless face. Inside he’s dying because he gave the Kicker a practice shot. After compensating for the wind, Diego fine-tuned his delivery and nailed it.

These Kickers are NOT freezing because they have to think about this type of kick, this is all they do, all week, all season and all game on the sideline kicking into the net. Do they think the kicker has some sort of anxiety problem? Dumb ass Coach is going to play amateur psychologist, really? Who came up with this brainstorm anyway? Mike Shanahan? Once in a blue moon, the guy makes it, then misses it but more often they either make them both or miss it then make it. Stats show they have a higher FG percentage after being iced. It’s not 1962 anymore when even Lou Groza made only 60% of the FGs, these specialists hit well over three out of four at the end of the period now even from near 50 yards, iced or not.

They need to STOP IT, NOW! Coach, you’re giving more fans reason to bury you. I don’t need another truck commercial, stop wasting time, IT DOESN”T WORK!

Even Steve, my mulligan addicted golf buddy knows “the second one is even more betterer”!
