The Armed Forces Bowl

Okay, so I like to bet almost every Bowl game and it is two days before Christmas. I love this two week period because there’s at least one game on every night. The doubleheaders are the best. Parlay time!

So Dec. 23rd, the Armed Forces Bowl and it’s Army vs. San Diego State. I’ve done pretty well riding the Aztecs most of the year but Army is tough, they upset Navy 14-13 by running out the clock in Philly two weeks prior and held Navy to only a FG in the second half. Very emotional indeed when they sang their song to the fans at the end of the game.

SDSU-6 ½. 10 wins. Not bad. Army is tough but SDSU has an amazing runner Rashaad Penny who controls most games, jeez 2,248 yards in 13 games with 23 TDs. This guy is going to be a solid pro, even Army’s tough D won’t be able to stop him from leading the Aztecs to victory. But I worry SDSU may not cover so I’m going to tease this baby 6 points with two other games and take SDSU- ½.

Looking pretty good with Penny on his way to 200 yards rushing entering the third quarter with SDSU up 28-21. Army has the ball, down 35-28, 5:42 to play. Army does not pass so the clock will be running, should be good. However, SDSU defense is exhausted as Army has run an incredible 91 plays, all but 1 are runs, with that frustrating triple-option. That shit just wears you out.

15 plays and eating up all the clock, Army punches it in with 22 seconds to go. Okay, overtime, and I got Penny. But wait, Army goes for two, makes it easily on a sweep blowing by the tired Aztec Defense.

As I cringe I look at the TV screen which says the ARMED FORCES BOWL- ARMY leads 36-35!

Really? I couldn’t figure out that the team representing the Armed Forces might be a good bet in the Armed Forces Bowl?

Well, guess what, I’m ready for the NAVY game now, it’s the Military Bowl in Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis if you believe that. So I learned my lesson, and unloaded on Navy to take out Virginia and lo and behold! NAVY 49-7, a game never in doubt. I’m a slow learner but I figured this one out.

Can’t wait till next year.
