Sportsbozos Weekly NFL Selections

Week 1

Sportsbozos Weekly NFL Selections started off Thursday night with a loss by the pathetic Matt Ryan and the Falcons against an equally inefficient Eagles team defending the Super Bowl Championship at home, (18-12). 28 penalties, 16 in the first half made for a bleak opening night contest. Ryan, down by six in the Philly Red Zone late in the game, blew five chances to get the win by overthrowing or forcing terrible passes. Both teams struggled to a boring (6-3) half as the Boo-Birds returned to Lincoln Field. Atlanta has too much talent to play this poorly and Ryan simply choked when he needed to step up.

Sunday 1 pm Games

Steelers @ Browns (+4) The Browns have improved their team, on paper at least, and Bell has not even practiced. Cleveland lately keeps this game close. We’ll take the home dogs to keep it close in the pound.

49ers @ Vikings (-6 ½)    Minnesota will end Slippin’ Jimmy’s win streak. The return of Dalvin Cook and the strength of Viking WR duo Thielen and Diggs will be too much for the visiting Niners. Lay the 6 ½. Cousins chalks up a big first win.

Bengals @ Colts (-2 ½)    Indy has no running game and Luck is playing in his first game back. Dalton, AJ Green and Joe Mixon eke out a road win. Take Cincy with the 2 ½ points.

Bills @ Ravens (-7 ½)       The Bills can’t run or stop the run. Nathan (Jay) Peterman is the QB. Need I say more? Ravens win easy, give Buffalo the 7 ½.

Jaguars @ Giants (+3)      Hate to say it but the G-Men are overmatched in their home opener. Fournette should have his way running the pigskin and the Jags Defense will frustrate Manning and his talented options. Besides Solder, the line is still weak and Mr. Fleetfoot Eli is going to be in for trouble. Bortles won’t have to pass more than 20 times and the Jags will grind out a low scoring win. Give the points on the road.

Buccaneers @ Saints (-9 ½)       Blowout special! Brees lights up the Tampa D and Kamara has another big day. Without Winston and the absence of a running game, the futile Bucs get embarrassed. Give the wood in this one.

Texans @ Patriots (-6)    Expect a high scoring affair. The return of Watson throwing to Hopkins will keep Houston in this one. Brady pulls one out of his hat again, or does he? Take Houston with the six and the over.

Titans @ Dolphins (+1)   Tannehill is back at the helm and Drake is a beast running the ball. Tennessee has weapons Mariota to Walker and Derrick Henry but we expect a close, low scoring affair that the Fins pull out in dramatic fashion. Miami wins it with a late FG and the under.

4 pm Games

Chiefs @ Chargers (-3 ½)            KC, with Hunt and Hill and Mahomes has too many weapons for the Lightning Bolts. Chiefs in a shootout.

Seahawks @ Broncos (-3)               Case Keenum era begins in Denver with a low scoring win. Seattle is a mess after losing Sherman and Chancellor. Broncos and the under.

Cowboys @ Panthers (-3)          The Head Bozo thinks Dallas with their dominant offensive and defensive line play will control this game from the start. The inconsistent Cam newton makes too many mistakes. Dallas on the money line and also take the 3 point gift.

Redskins @ Cardinals (-1)          David Johnson is the key to the Arizona victory, Cards running game leads the way. New Skins QB Alex Smith has no running game and it’ll be evident early. AZ -1 is the play.

Sunday Night

Bears @ Packers (-7)       Storied franchises meet with Aaron Rodgers back and Khalil Mack debuts his new Bear uniform. These are not your Momma’s Bears. Look for some electricity for a change from the Chi-town squad. Packers lame running game will keep Rodgers on his toes. Da Bears keep it close in Lambeau, take the TD.

Monday Night

Jets @ Lions (-6 ½)            It’ll be too much to ask for Sammy and the Jets to win on the road week 1. They’ll be better and Detroit sucks too but Stafford’s experience trumps Darnold. Give up 6 ½ points and stop praying for the Jets miracle.

Rams @ Raiders (+4 ½)   Goff, Gurley and the vaunted Rams Defense spoil Gruden’s return. Carr is overmatched and the Men in Black won’t be able to compensate for the loss of K-Mack. Rams in a cakewalk.

Good Luck!
