Le Golf- Le Cup du Ryder
- Updated: 09/26/2018
It’s amazing the only word for Golf the French could come up with is Le Golf. Brillant! (That’s Brilliant in French) I don’t remember French being this easy in Brother Roger’s class in High School.
And the Golf Course where the 2018 Ryder Cup is being contested, yes, you guessed it, Le Golf National!
The 2016 Ryder Cup held in Minnesota saw Davis Love captain his way to a 17-11 victory for the US with the loveable Patrick Reed leading the petulant Americans with 4 wins, one tie and no losses.
Prior to that, in 2014, The European team won 16 ½-11 ½ in Scotland, by a point in 2012 in Illinois and by a point in 2010 in Wales.
The Americans, led by a resurgent Tiger Woods and new Captain Tabitha Furyk are favored 6-5 on the road in La France to maintain ownership of Le Cup.
The Fourball and Foursome matches Thursday and Friday will be played in the middle of the night here in the Good Ol’ US of A. Maybe if you wake up early, you can see Dustin or Justin nail a putt to score one for the good guys. The Euros are notoriously strong in the alternate shot matches over the pond.
Both teams are loaded obviously with the Americans holding a slight edge.
World #4 Justin Thomas and #1 Dustin Johnson have been dominant most of the year, each carding three wins. #3 Brooks Koepka won two majors. Tiger is back! Can Phil find any magic? Reed loves this format and is a bulldog. Jordan Spieth has something to prove after being excluded from the Tour Championship. DeChambeau won the first two legs of the FedEx.
The European team is not too shabby either. # 2 Justin Rose just won $10 million and the FedEx Cup. #6 Rory is playing well and hoping for a rematch with Reed. Molinari won the British. Noren and Olesen are young and hungry and Norse.
We’re going with the Americans to win due to a few perceived weak links on the European squad. Paul Casey has slid to #21 and is out of form. Sergio has not been seen on Sundays of late and is down to #28. Poulter is a head case but will be trouble in a team format. Stenson has had injury issues and is ranked #24. Rahm hasn’t stepped up when the opportunity has presented itself over the weekends on the tour. Tyrell Hatton?
The Muricans just have too much depth. Fowler and Finau, Watson and Webb are all players Furyk can send out there in Le Confidence.
Le Bozos du sport think it’ll be close or Les Americans will be trailing going into singles the last jour, but their overall depth will lead them to a narrow victory and bring home Le Cup to 2020 at Whistling Straits.
We’re taking USA to win by 1-3 points at +275
Total points leader we have:
Justin Thomas at +850
Bryson DeChambeau at 20-1
And of course Tiger at 16-1.
Bon chance!
