Todd Bowles-Movement is Getting Smelly

We told you so.

Before the season we wrote about some of the puzzling moves GMs and Teams made. We could not understand why the NY Jets brought back defensive minded, ultra conservative and losing coach Todd Bowles to teach a stud rookie QB like Sam Darnold how to consistently lose. (Click here to read Puzzling Moves) In what world is a coach with consecutive 5-11 seasons given a Cadillac QB to drive? We questioned wasting time with Darnold learning a system from a guy who most likely will get canned, and here we are 3 games in and the Jets are 1-2 with the Jaguars up next. Good luck with that Jet fans.

A rookie QB against one of the 3 best defenses in the league will surely be an ugly loss and Bowles may be flushed down the toilet like last night’s burritos. An interim coach and a new coach will be named in the off season and Darnold is left to learn another offensive system. This complete and utter Jet dysfunction even has Rich Kotite picking his nose and calling them losers. Maybe the Jets can ask Bruce Coslett or Walt Michaels to come out of retirement? Is Dick Vermiel still alive? If so see maybe he can do something with this anemic offense that runs up the middle twice for no gain and throws on 3rd and long. Last week, safety Jamal Adams told reporters the Jets were not prepared to face Baker Mayfield, who came in and won the game for the Browns. Bowles emphatically denied this as he took the paper and went into the bathroom stall to release the hounds.

Last week against the Browns, RB Isiah Crowell thought it would be a good idea to wipe the chilli off his arse after scoring a TD on a short run and the team was flagged 15 yards after a momentum changing 14-0 lead was achieved. Bowles, ever the disciplinarian, shook his head and did what he always does: NOTHING. He could have taken control of the team and ordered this idiot off the field until further notice for putting himself ahead of the team and for acting like an absolute jackass and making a joke out of his franchise. Later in the game on a critical 3rd and long, the Jets shut down the browns and CB Trumaine Johnson took the ball and repeatedly shoved the ball into Jarvis Landry’s chest to taunt him directly in front of a referee. A flag was thrown for unsportsmanlike conduct and a 4th and 12 punt became 1st and 10 Browns, which turned into a Browns touchdown. Bowles shook his head and did NOTHING. That play was equal to a fumble or interception but Mr. Bowel-Movement sits there constipated and unable to tell his CB to go join his running back in the locker room. I find it amazing that a team that is 25-42 over the last 4 years thinks they can taunt another team or show boat.

Bowles literally has no idea how to run a team or coach it and it was evident when a 2nd year player like Adams admits they did not prepare at all for Mayfield. More importantly, at halftime they made no adjustments to stop a rookie QB. The Browns hadn’t won in over two years, but he never took into account that the number 1 pick in the draft might play? On the offensive side, Bowles continues to hamper his rookie QB by running conservative plays for little gain on the first two downs and giving his QB a 3rd and long to navigate. It only took him 3 games to figure out that perhaps it might be a good idea to keep a running back in the backfield to chip block and/ or release. If the Jets do fire Bowles after getting mauled by the Jaguars on Sunday, one would hope that they would have the common sense to try and hire an offensive minded coach or QB coordinator who can spend the rest of the year developing Darnold. But as we predicted, this will be a lost year for Darnold’s development because whoever they bring in to coach in the off season will have a new playbook, system, verbiage and philosophy. Basically, this is a red shirt rookie year for Darnold and the Jets. Now if you will excuse me, I need to go to the bathroom.
