Coaches continue to insult the fans…
by John Busacca
As a kid growing up in New York there was an unwritten rule. If you had a fair and square fight and got your ar$e kicked you would tend to lay low for a couple days and try to avoid making eye contact with anybody for at least a week. When your girlfriend dumped you despite your over the top love for her you tended to lay low and not see her and instead maybe try to make out with her best friend as revenge. When you got your first job working for McDonalds for $3.35 per hour, you hoped and prayed nobody you knew would see you for fear of being mocked wearing a polyester yellow and orange outfit with the arches on them. What has happened to football players? There was a time when if you lost a football game at any level you lost bragging rights and would vow “Wait until next year”. Today losers go to great lengths to act like fools regardless of record or outcome.
Last night the Colts, winners of four games a year ago and 1-4 this year were down by two touchdowns in the 3rd quarter against the Patriots and to celebrate this, these clowns went into a 7 man group of preplanned celebrations to celebrate what? An interception in another losing effort by the Colts. Coach Frank Reich said afterword he is “a little concerned with this celebration”. I think I would be more concerned that my team is now 5-17 over the last 2 years and your players are spending time practicing celebration rituals instead of blocking and tackling. Where do you get the gall to taunt a dynasty like the Patriots as you are getting beat yet again? There is no longer any shame among these supposed gladiators.
The NY Giants are 3-16 over the last 2 years and Odell Beckham continues to orchestrate celebrations that are shameful at best and embarrassing to say the least. Last week in yet another loss, this time a 33-18 stomping by the Saints, OBJ and another wide out Shepherd had yet another pre planned celebration in the end zone to rejoice over a 7-0 lead in the 1st quarter. So to recap, we have excessive taunting and celebrations from players on the Colts, Giants and Jets that have combined for a collective record of 13-48 the last 2 years and their coaches say literally nothing. More importantly, where are the leaders of these teams telling their fellow players to knock this crap off? Maybe I’m old and don’t understand the “You Tube generation” and the “look at me on social media” age. All I know is that generally when you get your butt kicked shouldn’t you show a little more modesty? Maybe tone it down and work on blocking schemes instead of dance schemes in the event you make a play?
Coaches throughout the league seem to have lost their ability to control their players and make them play and act like men. This snowflake generation wants to celebrate a participation trophy because they scored a TD, even though they are losers and getting whooped in a game. The time has come for coaches of these losers to man up and put these idiots on the bench or on the waiver wire in order to teach them some self awareness. Years ago Charlie Sheen on “Two and a Half Men” had a fight with Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler and got his ar$e kicked so bad he was in a neck brace. When Sheen saw him again he held out his hand and said “No hard feelings”? And Steven Tyler responded “Why would I have hard feelings, I‘ve been picking pieces of your ar$e out of my boots”? Perhaps football teams could take a page out of this playbook and use it on their players?
