Will Lightning Strike Twice?

 By Jeff Cohen

Today marks almost exactly to the day, 1 year ago, that the unimaginable happened to me, one of those “one every 20 year events”.  I‘m in a “pick every game pool with the spread” each week and I was leading the pool for the week with an 11-3 record tied with another person who was also 11-3.  I had Redskins, he had Chiefs.  I remember it like it was yesterday, the sour taste still fresh in my mouth…..October 2nd, 2017, Landover, Maryland,  Monday night, the Washington Redskins hosting the Kansas City Chiefs on a beautiful fall evening.  The line, Redskins +4.5 at home.  Now, I have a belief and strategy that I use that the Home dawg on Monday night as it usually covers (I don’t know the actual statistics, but last year the strategy worked really well for me).   So, the Redskins quickly jump out to a 10-0 lead after 1 quarter, and when you’re getting points, you start licking your chops.  Late into the 4th, you really start computing the outcomes in your head, and with the Redskins tying the score with a field goal  to make it 20 -20  with less than a minute to play, it appears to be a lock of a win even if the Chiefs score a last second field goal .  So like you assume, the Chiefs march down the field and kick a 43 yard FG with 4 seconds left to take the lead 23-20 with 4 seconds left.  YES!  This game is in the bag!  What could go wrong?  All the Redskins have to do is receive the kickoff, and do almost anything…. except that 1 in a 1000 thing that you’re thinking but can never really happen, right?  So of course what happens….  The Redskins try to reenact the “Cal-Stanford” play, minus the band on the field, or the “Music City miracle”, minus the music, and start lateraling the ball backwards, each one looking worse than the last, multiple times until the final nail in the coffin hits- Chris Thomson who drops the rock at the 5 yard line, only to have Justin Houston scoop it up and trot into the end zone making the Final 29-20; blowing the spread for the Home Dawg and pushing the Over the over/under of 48.  My Theory, Strategy, and Money out the window.  Which leads me to tonight’s game where I ironically am fixed in almost exactly the same place as 1 year ago.  I have the Redskins +4.5 tied with another who has the Saints.  Can Lightening strike in the same place twice??

TAKE THE SAINTS AND LAY THE POINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Signed,
