Week 6 Game of the Week Kansas City @ New England

The battle for dominance in the AFC is on this week on Sunday Night Football when the 5-0 KC Chiefs travel to Foxboro to take on the perennial AFC Champion 3-2 Patriots.

The Pats dominated their usual suspects, AFC challengers Colts and Dolphins in the last two weeks, beating Miami 38-7 and Indianapolis 38-24 and are rounding into true Patriot form in their quest for another Super Bowl appearance. After an inexplicable loss at Detroit in Week 3 and a subpar performance in Jacksonville Week 2, Brady and Belichick have righted the ship. The Pats are 3 ½ point favorites at home with a huge over/ under total of 59 ½.

The undefeated Chiefs (5-0) faced and dismissed their biggest challenge of 2018 when they clobbered a tough defensive Jacksonville Jaguars team last week 30-14. Earlier close wins against the Broncos and Steelers have toughened up Andy Reid’s team, however this is the game, although still early in the season, that will define the Chiefs. A road win against Giselle’s Pretty Boy will go a long way for the Chiefs’ QB Patrick Mahomes confidence and of course, toward KC securing home field advantage in the playoffs.

On paper, it looks like an obvious high scoring affair, KC with their weapons RB Kareem Hunt, TE Travis Kelce and outstanding burner WR Tyreek Hill leading Mahomes’ offense combined with Brady and Gronk and rookie Sony Michel for the Pats.

The Chiefs are 5th in total offense but last in total defense.

The Pats are only 20th in total offense and 16th in defense.

As much as I would love to embrace the changing of the guard in the “New” AFC and crown the Chiefs the next great team and see NE and TB-12 and Billy B. fall from grace, this game, like all big games, comes down to coaching.

Andy Reid, an above average and possible Hall Of Fame Coach, is 188-120 (61%) all time regular season but a woeful 11-13 in the playoffs, when the Championships are on the line. He is 1-4 with the Chiefs in the playoffs and last year KC lost 22-21 to the Titans in the Wild Card game after holding a 21-3 halftime lead. I am the Walrus was fired in Philly in 2012 for his lack of ability to win the “big” game. Last year, the Chiefs also started 5-0 but finished a dismal 10-6.

Possibly the greatest coach in NFL history, Bill Belichick is 215-75 (74%) in the regular season, and that includes 36-44 with the Browns. He is 27-10 (73%) in the playoffs with NE. He has finished first in the AFC East every year but two since 2001 and has won five Super Bowls. His ability to see and adjust to matchups with inferior personnel (besides Tommy Boy) is unparalleled.

I never like laying 3 ½ (the hook will kill you) however all the hopeful and “trap” money will go on the Chiefs, but the smart money will realize that in a big game, you don’t shortchange Bill B., Pretty Boy and the Pats.

In other games, the Bozos like:

Arizona to play tough and challenge the Vikings. Rosen is improving and although Minnesota beat the Eagles last week, 10 points is too much, even up in the dome. Take the Cards and the 10.

We like the Chargers (Even) in Cleveland. The Browns have come a long way but the offensive talent and experience of Phillip Rivers will give the Bolts the win.

Miami +3 ½ at home over Chicago (3-1). Home dog with the hook. Tannehill had an awful day last week, losing after being up 17-0 vs. the Bungles and have dropped two straight after a 3-0 start. Gotta believe at home, the usually mistake prone Ryan will play better and the Fins will beat the smokin’ hot Bears. Trubisky is on fire after crushing Tampa two weeks ago but the Dolphins defense is going to surprise Mitchy the Kid and score one for the sweaty faithful.

Carolina and Washington are both inconsistent and create opportunities for the other team with their mistakes. In a flip of the coin, we’ll take the boys from DC laying a point in Landover.

The Colts are really struggling but are playing tight games. The Jets crushed Denver at home last Sunday. In a tough call, we like Andrew Luck and his experience over the rookie Sammy Darnold. Take Indy +2 ½.

Huge divisional matchup of Steelers at Bengals. Big Ben knows these hoodlums so well he’ll be determined to snatch one in the Jungle. Pittsburgh ate up Atlanta last week and are in rhythm while Cincinnati was on the lucky end of a Tannehill meltdown. Steelers +2.

Atlanta’s defense is riddled with injuries but Tampa comes to the dome just in time. Winston is back and the Groper will throw enough inaccurate passes giving Matt Ryan the field position he needs to bury the Bucs. Give the 3 points.

Ravens are 3-2 and are in a funk and are on the road against a 3-2 Titans team that has been playing great defense. Tennessee squeaked out a win in Buffalo 13-12 while Baltimore lost in Cleveland, 4 FGs to 3. In a low scoring trench warfare, we think the Ravens will prevail, they have more offensive talent and will bounce back after last week’s pitiful showing.

Oakland +2 1/2 in Wembley, England over Seattle. Why not? Derek Carr and Jon Gruden are due to catch a break and this game looks like the perfect spot. Seattle is on a downtrend. This travel is insane!

Buffalo (2-3) is getting 10 points on the road against the 2-3 Texans. What Bills team will we see, the one that crushed the Vikings or the one that was shutout in Lambeau? In a defensive battle we think Buffalo will cover. Deshawn Watson may not play for Houston. Take the under as well (41).

Vance Joseph, Broncos head coach may be fired shortly after this one. If Denver can’t make it interesting against the favorites to win the Super Bowl, the undefeated LA Rams, then Vance, you better get the Samsonites ready! Lay the 7 in Mile High, the 2018 Rams have simply too much talent.

Jaguars -2 1/2 in Dallas in another defensive snoozefest in Texas. Fusilli Jerry chokes on his pasta and calls Jason Garrett out. Jags D too much for Dak and Zeke.

49ers at Green Bay: There’s Something About Mary in this game. She loved Brett Favre but she’s a Niners fan. Poor CJ Beathard! Danica Rodgers will make amends for the pathetic loss last week to the Lions and the unfrozen tundra will be a place for Mr. Rodgers to pick apart SF. Tell your neighbor to lay the 9 ½ at home Monday night with the Pack.

Bozo Best Bets:

NE -3 ½ vs. KC

ATL -3 TB

-HB
