Tanking
- Updated: 11/16/2018
The Head Bozo accidently tuned on to ESPN and Stephen A. Bigmouth and Max “the Lisp” Kellerman and before I could switch the station, I heard them talking about “Tanking”. These two talking over one another for 15 minutes saying the same dumb thing over and over again made me scream in disbelief.
“The Giants should try to lose their games to get the first pick in the 2019 NFL Draft in April” is what they were recommending in 1000 words or more. Yes, the G-Men will need a QB, but to try to lose now to potentially move up a few spots in the April draft?
Tools, dolts, dotards!
First of all, do they or does anyone know for sure what future Hall of Fame QB is coming out of college this spring?
The knee-jerk answer is of course Justin Herbert, big dude out of Oregon, 6’6”, 233 lbs. A junior, he has led the ducks to a 3-4 Pac-12 Conference record and owns six victories over Portland State, San Jose State, Cal, a substandard Washington, a 2-8 UCLA and that powerhouse Bowling Green. His team was crushed by the Arizona Wildcats 44-15 and the Utah Utes. Arizona’s porous defense shut down Herbert to 24-48 and only 186 yards.
The Giants should definitely try to lose every game to get this guy! The next Red Grange, maybe Joe Montana, Johnny U! Has Herbert even declared for the draft yet Max? Oh, not yet, not sure, duh…?
How about Trace McSorley from Penn State? Reunite him with Saquon. You won’t have to move up to get him, he’s talented and he’ll be available through round one. McKenzie Milton from UCF, Ryan Finley from NC State, Will Grier from West Va., still don’t see Elway, Rodgers or Brady. Why did Gettleman draft Lauletta in the 4th round last spring, for the practice squad? Driving lessons? Setting up the pylons?
Do the Giants tank to get a defensive star like Nick Bosa? His brother Joey is always hurt or complaining, Nick won’t play his last few games at Ohio State after declaring for the draft. You don’t think this guy is going to be a headache? Prima donna holdout scenario every year, trade demands, forget it!
The real reason this conversation between these two big know-nothing talking heads is insane is because tanking is inconceivable in football. Maybe in an individual sport like the NBA it might work to get more ping pong balls, but even that is a stretch, and really just over calculated stupidity. This football team consists of 53 players, practice guys, the Head Coach, dozens of assistants, the GM, the Maras, etc. What do they do after say week 9 when the team is 2-7, convene a meeting where the head muckety-muck says, I have an idea, let’s figure out a way to lose so we can jump the Raiders or the 49ers in the draft? Everyone says Hooray! I’ve been training and battling my whole life so that I can get to the NFL and learn how to lose purposely. I’m going to throw away my pride and miss a tackle, overthrow a pass, muff a punt so we can lose at home in front of 72,000 loyal fans to the Buccaneers to go 2-8 instead of 3-7. It’s worth it to get Herbert or Bosa before Gruden hands in his index card in April.
These guys are trying to win and mostly coming up a little short, but they are trying. Yes, the players they have are underperforming and making mistakes but they are competing. Of course we see penalties and bonehead coaching decisions. But Eli, in the face of brutal criticism, is still out there giving 100 percent, toughing it out on his old cement legs, trying to heave the ball to Odell late in the 4th quarter. Odell and his teammates are frustrated but even Mr. Attitude knows that it takes mental toughness, hard work and perseverance to flip a losing team into a winner.
It’s irresponsible to even suggest an athlete to not give his absolute best on every play. Besides fighting for their jobs next year and beyond, this is a career. No administrator with any self-respect would even ask a player or players to lay down much less a player agreeing to this sort of action. A NFL franchise is a prideful organization. How does ESPN allow these morons to suggest this type of thing? Ratings? Controversy? It’s embarrassing to the viewer and the network frankly.
Now Odell may be unrealistic claiming the Giants could win the rest of their games and go 9-7, but isn’t that what a Giant fan wants to hear? Take it one game at a time and prepare diligently and compete with the expectation and attitude it takes to win. Tampa, Philly, Chicago, why not? One game at a time with maximum effort and when it’s over you can look in the mirror and say you tried your best. Screw the draft, live and play in the present, April will come when it comes and drafting 4th or 14th will not make or break the 2019 Giants.
STFU Stephen A! STFU Max!
