TMZ: The True Watchdog of the NFL

Once again Roger Goodell, commissioner of the NFL has managed to botch the impossible.  The recent release of Kareem Hunt by the Chiefs is not just an embarrassment but might be a call for Goodell’s head on a silver platter.  In case you have been sleeping under a rock, Kareem Hunt of the Chiefs was cut by the team today because in February of this year he is in a video pushing, shoving and of course, kicking a woman on the ground.  Now, I have no idea of knowing what this woman does for a living, what she may have said or why grown adults were having a scrum in front of an elevator on video tape at 2:00 am.  All I know is that once again the NFL waits for TMZ to publicly shame them before they begrudgingly do damage control.

When I was a kid the National Enquirer, People Magazine and the Star Magazine were considered garbage magazines and we were told by our parents to not believe that Elizabeth Taylor was getting married for the 17th time or that Marlon Brando joined the Cherokee Indian tribe.  For much of my life this was true but over the last decade TMZ has become the most reliable source of news in the USA.  If they report Michael Jackson is dead, don’t bother moon walking your ass over to NBC because they are still just hearing reports.  When TMZ says Prince is in the fetal position and blue, don’t waste time checking with CNN on the purple wonder… he’s dead as a door nail despite the commentators refusing to confirm.  Unfortunately, when a report of an athlete beating a woman, sucking coke through an exhaust pipe or hanging with prostitutes or a Kardashian is reported, it’s as good as gold.  TMZ: the most trusted name in news!

The Ray Rice debacle left the NFL with quite a black eye as they actually refused to watch the surveillance tape of him in a casino pulling a caveman act on his wife.  The latest debacle of Kareem Hunt once again shows how out of touch Goodell is with today’s news, technology and public opinion. According to reports, the Chiefs AND the NFL knew about this incident back in February.  How does a Hollywood outfit get the video tape and release it before a 50-Billion-dollar empire?  This is akin to the Buffalo Gazette breaking the story of Watergate before the Washington Post.  This black eye may be the last straw and I believe Jerry Jones will extract his revenge and finally have Goodell removed for incompetence.

Goodell stood idly by as Reuben Foster was released for once again beating a woman but did nothing when the Redskins quickly signed him instead of waiting for a full investigation of the player’s actions.  Right about now JJ is on the phone terrifying other owners with the notion that Reuben was also in a hotel last week when he once again was arrested for beating up his girlfriend.  The question is this: Do you want to wait for TMZ to release that video too or do you want to chop Roger now?  We have made some tongue and cheek jokes but want to be clear about something.  We do not condone these acts and do not condone despicable cowards who seem to enjoy the abuse of women.  Unfortunately, we are referring to Goodell just as much as the thug players.
