Sports Bozos out on a Limb

One Bozos opinion…

This is actual unedited footage of this Bozo cutting some tree limbs down from his back yard after Hurricane Irma. This is extremely dangerous and I am a trained professional so please do not attempt this at home. In the same risky way I trim my live oaks, I am going to risk my reputation (or what’s left f it) and make some bold predictions for this weekend’s playoff games. Once again, I am a professional and I am used to public humiliation so please do not attempt this at home.

Cowboys v Rams: The ‘Boys were my early preseason pick to make it at least to the NFC championship game. They have a tall task playing the LA Rams on the road and normally this would be an easy prediction but there are two things that bother this Bozo. First, there will most likely be more ‘Boys fans than Rams fan at this game so home field advantage may not actually exist. The Rams have been extremely successful the last two years but have yet to be embraced by the wine and cheese loving fans of SoCal who seem more interested in whether the venue will supply paper straws instead of plastic. Cowboys fans are everywhere and they do travel well. I am predicting 60% of the crowd will be screaming for Dak and Zeke and creating loud noise for Jared Goff on third down. The other thing that bothers me is the fact that the Rams rely so much on Todd Gurley to run early and often and right now the ‘Boys have the deepest line in football and will make him earn a lot of short gains. On the other side of the ball, the Rams defense has been sort of a hit and miss in big games. Zeke Elliot should see at least 25 carries and 10 passes thrown his way. Brace yourself, but I think the Boys will upset the Rams and it may not be as close as people think. If Zeke and the “manimal” offensive line of the ‘Boys get going, you can count on confusion and finger pointing among the star studded lineup of defensive talent on that line.

Eagles v Saints: I get it, the Saints crushed the Eagles a month ago, but if you know anything about the NFL, what happened weeks ago literally means nothing. Year after year we watch as the Patriot dynasty dies with a horrible loss in September and then a few weeks later they crush the competition and get a home field game. A week ago I told our Head Bozo to watch out for the Eagles and said “They may be the scariest team in the playoffs”. They proved me right in Chicago last week and as they descend on NOLA, I would be petrified if I was a Saints fan. They are a champion, were left for dead and have nothing to lose. Nick Foles is not just playing the role of Jeff Hostettler and leading from the back up position, but he is actually giving leadership to this team. Despite the talk of the Bobbleheads on TV and print, the one thing that people forget is Foles is 29, not 22 like Wentz and has experience and leadership. Right now his team is rallying around him like last year and don’t be surprised if Alshon Jeffery and “My Ball” Zach Ertz have huge days in the passing game. This Bozo likes the screaming Eagles for the upset.

Charges v. Patriots: Just stop it already. This is a no contest fight due to the depth and talent on the Chargers and any coach in football would pick the Chargers entire roster over the Pats in a heartbeat. Obviously though, TB12 and Belichick will run off victorious because the Chargers find ways to lose. Last week despite a defensive domination of the Ravens and a 23-3 lead, the Chargers spent the entire 4th quarter trying in vain to give the game away and erase 3 quarters of dominance in 10 minutes or less. They played that game to NOT LOSE. That won’t cut it against the heart of a champion like the Pats and if you think you can sit back in Foxboro with a 17 point lead and hope the clock runs out, you are going to be a loser yet again. Just ask the Atlanta Falcons. I take the Pats on a comeback win in the 4th quarter as TB12 notches another victim who played “prevent victory defense”. Clemson realized this against Bama and took them to the woodshed, yet these other teams seem content to lose on the final play of the game while hoping the clock runs out.

Colts v. Chiefs: This might be the toughest choice of all to make. Do I trust Andy Reid to finally win a playoff game after another stellar season or will he revert to the same old guy who wins a bunch of regular season games and then flames out? I heard a stat today that was shocking: KC is now 0-6 in their last 6 HOME playoff games. That is absolutely terrifying when you have the neck beard Andrew Luck coming to town like a river boat gambler. I am really on edge for this pick but only because Mahomes is still basically a rookie and about to play his first playoff game. In addition, the Chiefs defense is a linen curtain not a steel curtain. This is a tossup game but if Luck and the Colts can go on long time consuming drives they can pull the upset. Mahomes has lost only a few times this year and in each case it was in a big game like the Rams, Pats, Chargers and Seahawks. I’m concerned that better competition brings out the worst in either Mahomes or in Reid. Based on history, I will go with Reid’s failed history and although this game is a tossup, I believe Luck will pull off the upset and have KC fans demanding the scalp of one Andy Reid.
