Mr. Rosen Picks Roadster In Kentucky Derby
- Updated: 05/02/2019
On paper this appears to be a very competitive Derby. Mr. Rosen has had to make some assumptions as to how the race may play out.
Speed will be honest and closers will have their chances depending on who has best trip.
He likes Roadster off his last race, a victory over Game Winner in the Santa Anita Derby and there seems to be no reason why he should not be reasonably close to the pace as a mid-pack stalker and should have a solid run to finish.
Maybe this year the Wood Memorial is a good prep to the Derby. In this case the venerable one thinks Tacitus might have too much ground to make up in stretch but a longshot, Tax may sit just outside the speed and run a nice trip and be there at end.
A good trip may be in store for another longshot, Vekoma. If the race is on a muddy surface, the omniscient Rosen likes him even more. He could be there in exotics at big price.
And lastly, the Baffert runner, Improbable, with blinkers off this time, might be relaxed enough to improve off his length loss to Omaha Beach and find himself slightly off the pace and work out a great trip. The post #5 is ideal. An off track also moves him further up.
