Giants’ Daniel Jones Shows Promise in Stunning Come From Behind victory
- Updated: 09/26/2019
All eyes were on Daniel Jones in his first NFL start after replacing the venerable Eli Manning week 3 in Tampa Sunday.
DJ, the 6th overall pick in the 2019 draft, did not disappoint, he threw for two scores and ran for 2 others, including the go-ahead scamper with 1:16 to play during the Giants dramatic 18 point second half comeback. Bucs PK Matt Gay missed a chip shot FG to win the game as time expired as the Giants chalked up their first win 32-31. Jones won NFC Offensive Player of the Week, however, he still has a boatload of improvements to make. Pocket presence, essentially sensing the rush, and protecting the football are vital areas the kid needs to work on. But that’ll come with experience. He played with poise and showed a winning attitude. With respect to Eli, he was expectedly disappointed but handled his demotion with class and assisted in preparing his protégé for his first start. How long that’ll last is anybody’s guess. The New Era Giants are off to a good start. Unfortunately Saquon Barkley suffered a high ankle sprain and will be out up to 8 weeks. This is a crushing loss as backup Wayne Gallman is serviceable but not a breakout runner. This will put even more pressure on Jones and the already ineffective defense. Fortunately, the G-Men play the struggling winless Redskins at home this weekend.
Patrick Mahomes asserted dominance in the Chiefs 33-28 win over Lamar Jackson and the Ravens in the battle of two of the top AFC Super Bowl contenders. The reigning MVP tallied another 300 yard passing game, setting the record for 13 such games in his first twenty. KC travels to Detroit to face the Lions as Mahomes will play in his first ever indoor game. Can you imagine Mahomes without having to account for any wind?
The Lions scored a huge upset in Philly 17-24 and are now (2-0-1). The Eagles are in danger of falling to (1-3) if they lose to an improved GB Packers squad Thursday night. Frankly, although I’d like to see the Eagles drop another game and face the abuse from their fans, I believe, they’ll rally for the win.
This week features the undefeated Vikings taking on the Bears (2-1) in Soldier Field. Minnesota usually struggles in Chi-town but this week we think the men in purple will steal a win over an inconsistent Mitch Trubisky. Dalvin Cook has emerged and a force running the ball for the Vikes.
Best Bets:
Eagles +4 over Packers
Vikings +3 over Bears
KC -6 1/2 over Lions
Rams -9 ½ over Bucs
