NFL 2019 Regular Season Recap (AFC)
- Updated: 12/31/2019
AFC East
Our assessment of the Patriots to secure 12 wins (12-4) after going 8-0 was right on the money. Easy first half of the schedule allowed them to skate in to the playoffs, however they hit a bump in the rad in the final game losing to the dolphins at home knocking them out of the #2 seed and a bye week for the playoffs. That didn’t sit well with Belichick and he’ll get Brady and the supporting cast back on track for a win at home vs. the Titans. New England felt the loss of Gronk in a big way as the offense struggled throughout the season. The defense stepped up, especially the secondary and the Pats were in the playoffs for the umpteenth time in a row. They did lose four out of their last eight understandably to the Ravens, Chiefs and Texans and surprisingly to Miami.
The Dolphins looked like a Tank squad losing badly in their first seven games trading away their stars and fumbling to find a QB. When they settled on Fitzmagic, the attitude improved and the Fins won five out of their last nine to end up (5-11) beating the Eagles, Patriots and Colts.
We figured the Jets and Bills would compete for second in the division however Gang Green got off to a dismal start as Darnold came down with Mono. A start of (0-4) curbed their enthusiasm but the finished a respectable (7-9) beating Dallas and Pittsburgh along the way.
Buffalo, behind QB and rock-star Josh Allen pounded their way to a (10-6) season securing a playoff berth, surprising the Bozos assessment. The Bills defense was really stingy leading to victories against the likes of Pittsburgh and Dallas when they needed it. All in all, their schedule was fairly easy.
AFC North
We predicted a pathetic season for the Bengals and they delivered (2-14). At least they have the first pick in the 2020 draft.
Everyone, including the HB got sucked into the Cleveland hype. Beckham and Mayfield. What could go wrong? But Freddie Kitchens and Myles Garrett interceded and a worse than mediocre Browns (6-10) were exposed. Dumbass Coach fired and DE suspended for the MOST egregious personal foul/ felony assault ever in the history of the NFL. OBJ had a lousy season and yes the prima donna mouthed off the entire time!
Pittsburgh lost Big Ben so you figured you could write them off then, not so fast moose breath! With a Mason and a Duck as QB they put together an injury filled (8-8) respectable season, actually winning seven in a row mid-season. Reality struck as they lost their last three knocking them out of the tournament.
The Ravens (14-2) as predicted with league MVP Lamar Jackson were the scourge of the NFL season in 2019 dominating every aspect of the game. With Jackson and Ingram running the ball, Baltimore was virtually unstoppable with losses only to the Browns and KC. Baltimore is basically an even money favorite to lock down the AFC spot in the title game.
AFC South
Lame division. We blew our prediction for a Jags rebound when in fact they lost QB Foles, brought in a tough Gardner Minshew but still faded to (6-10) as the defense struggled.
Houston (10-4) won the division by default as Indy (7-9) bailed early with losses to weak-ass Miami, Oakland and the Chargers. The Texans have a home playoff game after big wing over their rivals, the Titans, the Chiefs and the Pats.
Tennessee (9-7), led by Dolphin cast-off Ryan Tannnehill and rushing leader and human sledgehammer Derrick Henry, played their way into a playoff spot in a weak AFC.
AFC West
As expected, KC is the class of the division and only squad to finish over (.500).
Denver (7-9), the Chargers (5-11) and Oakland (7-9) (now Las Vegas) all disappointed.
Denver may have promising future with Drew Lock emerging a reliable QB.
For the Raiders, Derek Carr is too inconsistent and needs to go, while Philip Rivers may be calling it a career.
