I tell you I’m a thief and you call me a liar?

In the legendary movie “About Last Night” the great Jim Belushi tells Rob Lowe he stole all these restaurant supplies he gave him, and Lowe calls him a liar, to which Belushi utters this famous line. The irony of being called a liar for stealing wasn’t lost on me last week when new Broncos head coach Sean Payton called out Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett for being a horrible coach last year for Broncos. Let’s not be blind and pretend he wasn’t in over his head because clearly, he was in his first gig as a head coach. His clock management was awful, he had no real offensive scheme and let’s face it, Russell Wilson is/was clearly in decline, and you got the feeling Hackett was hoping that he would bail him out of some tough spots. Mercifully it ended after one year and Hackett is back to being an OC which is no shame. Not everyone is cut out to be a head coach in the NFL (Josh McDaniels, Matt Patricia and virtually every New England patriot assistant comes to mind) However coaching is a fraternity and Sean Payton showed he has about as much class as Nicki Minaj at an Oreo eating contest.
Payton is a super bowl winning coach and was highly respected in league circles for his expertise in offenses and leading the New Orleans Saints from being swamp dwellers for nearly 20 years. However, this is a new low for Payton…or is it? Let’s take a walk down memory lane since the NFL and media always have a short memory. Payton was head of a ‘Bounty Gate” program with his Coordinator Greg Williams in which Saints players were rewarded monetarily for hurting opposing players. In fact, in one game, Brett Favre openly asked a player if they were trying to kill him? The result was a one-year suspension of Payton and an indefinite suspension of Williams. Think about how severe this is? At a time when the concussion lawsuit was in full swing and a movie was being made regarding how many injuries were not being reported, this sick bastard of a man is paying players extra if they hurt or maim an opponent. Quite frankly, every NFL player should refuse to play for that man. There are signs in the end zone saying ‘STOP HATE” but Payton is paying players to hurt opponents? It would have been so great if Hackett responded by saying: “hey we could have won 12 games last year but I would never dream of hurting my fellow NFL brothers and possibly end a career like Sen Payton did…I have too much class and respect for this league and quite frankly I never understood why NFL let this guy back in the league” …BOOM.. Drop the mic!
This has me wondering why the NFL let him back in the league and where was the NFLPA advising all players not to sign or play for this man? How many long-term effects has this idiot caused and why are players following him onto a field? He is clearly an unrepentant jack arse who still has not even called Hackett and only gave a lighthearted apology. Amazing that a man with his background would have the audacity of being critical of others.
